Auntie Mee's Tea Time

Have a cup of tea over my story.

20 Hana-wa-Saku (Flowers Will Bloom Again)

A decade has passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake.

A powerful earthquake measuring 9.0-9.1 on the Richter scale hit mainly the Tohoku (North-east) region at 14:46, followed by massive tsunamis, resulting in 15,899 of death and 6,157 of injury in total.

The tsunamis caused nuclear power plants explosion. As a result many people in Fukushima prefecture were forced to leave their home town. Most of them have not returned yet.

A cherry tree from Fukushima was having flowers yesterday.

The earthquake also struck Tokyo and its vicinity.

Although it was lesser degree compared to the Tohoku region, several people were killed and houses were damaged.

Japanese allspice, or a winter sweet, is blooming and emitting a sweet scent.

A friend of mine have showed me a picture that dishes and cups fell to the floor.

Another friend of mine who worked on the 25th floor of a high-rise building told me she had been terrified to death.

One of my acquaintances said she had to walk all night to go back home where her baby child was waiting.

Early cherries are also blooming.

We had seen frightful videos and heard sad and shocking stories.

They said their family or friend, who had been well a little while ago, was gulped by tsunami in an instant. Even if they survived, their home and town had lost entirely.

The Japanese learned we are living on the edge between life and death not only philosophically but also realistically.

Mimosa flowers were swinging in the spring wind.

The town, once destroyed, seems to have restored but not completely. Even now, as many as 2,529 people have not found. The Fukushima nuclear plant has not been settled. The disaster has not ended yet.

As far as we live in this country, in this planet, we cannot avoid another “mega-quake”.

We should prepare it and minimize the damage.
