28. How Does Your Hydrangea Grow?

The rainy season is approaching.

This season is essential for the growth of rice and other plants.

In the past it used to rain moderately and persistently with occasional sunny spell, until it ends with occasional thunder and heavy rain. However, in recent years the rainfall have become so violent, even unmerciful, sometimes causing a disaster.

If it were not for this season, hydrangeas might not have so beautiful.

The hydrangeas are delicate to the intense sunlight and withered in the burning sun.

Hydrangeas had been brought to Japan from China early in the history.  After that, a Dutch doctor transported it all the way to Europe in the 19th century.

At flower shops we see many kinds of hydrangeas these days.

However, after planted in my garden, they become (or returns) to classic ones over time.

Hydrangeas are easy to grow, that’s because we can see here and there in this season.

In Japan the typical hydrangeas are blue, while British ones are pink. It is said that the acidity of the soil decides the color.

Which color is your garden’s hydrangea?
